MARIJUANA: Benefits and Side effects

Some countries legalize it, some do not - the very famous weed of all time,
the Marijuana, also know as Cannabis or Joint, or Herb. The list of names goes on, and so does it benefits and side effects to the users.

In this article, I will list down some of the common pros and cons of the very famous herbal medicine.

BENEFITS

It has been proven that the use of this herb makes people more relax, helps clear thinking, judgment, coordination and memory. It can also fight anxiety and depression.

Weed has been shown to regulate insulin production and helps the body manage daily calorie intake more efficiently, which means it can help you lose weight and maintain metabolism effectively.

We all know that this herb is many times safer than alcohol and tobacco, or any other hard addictive substances/drugs, recent studies show that people find it easier to gravitate towards weed from all other sorts of dangerous addictions.

It can also fight, regulate, or prevent several diseases. From helping fight Glaucoma to controlling epileptic seizures to helping prevent cancer from spreading to slowing Alzheimer’s to easing multiple sclerosis pain to reducing Hepatitis C side-effects to treating inflammatory bowels to relieving arthritis pain to helping you get through chemo to a lot more, scientific researches confirm the effectiveness of marijuana.

In total contrast to the stoner stereotype, medicinal marijuana can actually increase creativity and help people focus on their job. While weed might not have a great impact on short-term memory, people perform really well at tests where they’re required to come up with inventive ideas. Studies confirm that medical cannabis improves creativity and instead of making you stupid, it actually makes you smarterCheck this out.

Well? Should government legalize weed for uses other than medical use? There can be many very convincing benefits of legalizing weeds, here are some of them:
  • If government legalizes, regulates and taxes weed, this can help generate considerable revenue.
  • If weed is legalized, it will take a huge amount of burden off the criminal justice system and law enforcement agencies. Police officers, judges and prosecutors can focus on serious criminals, and prisons will be freed of space.
  • Most organized crimes, terrorists and drugs dealers generate their revenue by selling hard drugs, including weed. If weed is legalized, revenue going in wrong hands can come down big time.
  • More people will have access to it for medicinal use.

NEGATIVE EFFECTS

While now that we already know some of the good benefits of Marijuana, we now dive down to it's counterpart - the disadvantages.

The common acute effects of cannabis, occurring quickly after consumption are:

dry mouth
reddened eyes
dizziness
extraordinary appetite
euphoria

Responsiveness/alertness of the user may be reduced, especially in the few hours directly after consumption. Furthermore, users may experience increased heart-rate and a lowering of blood pressure. This can cause a sudden dizziness and weakness, so it is advised to be aware of falling.

Smoking marijuana can also irritate the lungs and lead to breathing problems like cough, excess mucus, bronchitis, and worsening of conditions like asthma and cystic fibrosis. It is not clear if smoking marijuana is linked to lung cancer. Marijuana use during pregnancy can also harm a baby’s brain development.
However, heavy use is difficult to define given the nature and limitations of past studies, the different ways marijuana and its extracts are used, and the shifts in THC concentration in cannabis.

In general, all mild effects mentioned will spontaneously dissolve within a few hours.

For the time being, if you do use marijuana products, do not do so before driving or operating other heavy or dangerous equipment, and stop if you are pregnant. Talk to your doctor about the safety of continued use if you have a heart or lung condition, or are concerned that you might have developed an addiction.
